Does Varicose Vein Treatment Hurt?

Varicose veins are a painful condition that can be difficult to live with, especially as the veins swell. Over time, you may find that your quality of life isn’t what it once was. In these cases, you don’t want to let varicose veins keep you from living life to the fullest, but you may wonder if varicose vein treatment is worth it.

Many patients worry about surgery or other overall pain from different treatment options. Luckily, the vascular and vein excerpts at Heart of Dixie Vein & Vascular offer minimally invasive alternatives to address your varicose veins and help you enjoy your life again. Learn more about these options here or give us a call to discover more about how we can help.

Will the Treatments Hurt?

While it used to be that varicose veins were treated using invasive therapy, more and more medical advancements have changed this. Now, instead of undergoing general anesthesia and removing the diseased vein during a surgical procedure, you can have local anesthesia and an outpatient procedure to treat your varicose veins. Most of the time, the treatment takes less than an hour.

Varicose Vein Treatment Options

Your physician will work with you to develop a treatment plan for your varicose veins. Most of these are not invasive and only require a bit of unpleasantness as a local anesthetic is applied. Most of the time, the less invasive options are administered first, and then, other options may be used.

Some of the varicose vein treatments we provide include:

  • Sclerotherapy: This option is standard for spider veins. During this procedure, the vein is closed using an injected solution.
  • Ablation: There are two main kinds of ablation for varicose veins. The first is radiofrequency ablation which involves using heat inserted into the vein with a catheter. The second is laser ablation, which is similar but uses a laser instead of a catheter.
  • VenaSeal: This modern treatment seals the diseased part of the vein. This adhesive is also given via catheter.

These are the most common treatment options for varicose veins at various stages. Each patient is different. We will design the treatment plan around your health needs to address your specific vein concerns. For more information on varicose vein treatments, please reach out to us.
